 Alamosa Wine Cellars
Bend, TX
Alamosa Wine Cellars brings the best of Italy, Spain and the Rhone Valley through the soils and climate of the Texas Hill Country. Situated in an area called High Valley in San Saba County, Alamosa’s portfolio is dedicated exclusively to warm climate varietals. This winery enjoys an elevation of 1200 feet and deep alluvial soils deposited by the nearby Colorado River. The south winds and the fogs from the Colorado River cool the vineyard by day keeping its varietals safe from the extreme temperatures Texas is known for.
The first five acres of Alamosa’s vineyard, Tio Pancho Ranch, was planted in the spring of 1996 with the help of friends and family. Jim and Karen Johnson, owners, started with the Viognier, a wonderful, aromatic white grape of the Northern Rhone region of France. Today the Johnsons create a number of varietals for their friends and clients to enjoy. From Sangiovese to Tempranillo Alamosa has proven all that is needed to tame the terrain of Texas is some love, care and a little bit of luck.
